About Panamint Dunes
The Panamint Dunes are a less-traveled dune field in Death Valley National Park that most visitors see from afar rather than actually visit themselves. The dune field is located in Panamint Valley and the trailhead for the dunes is accessed off of a long dirt road.
Distance: 7 miles roundtrip
Time: 3-4 hours
The hike to the dunes is a longer one at 7 miles and should only be attemted during cooler temperatures as the heat can turn life-threatening in a hurry.

Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit Panamint Dunes is early in the morning to take advantage of the cooler temperatures. Evening can also present a great time to visit although temperatures will be warmer.

Things to Note
The road leading to Panamint Dunes is long and unpaved with old abandoned autos along the way. It will take longer to drive than Google estimates.

Things to Note When Visiting Panamint Dunes
Entrance Fees: The fee to enter Death Valley is $30 per vehicle. If you plan on visiting more than 1 national park this year we suggest you go ahead and purchase the America the Beautiful Pass (which can be found at the entrance gates to most national parks or online here). This pass gets you into all National Parks, Forests, Monuments, and more including 2,000 sites for free after a one time $79 fee.

Provisions: Make sure to pack plenty of food & water.
Sunscreen: For many of us visiting national parks in the summer means lots of sun. Seriously, some of these parks can zap you if you don’t wear sunscreen. We happen to like this one because it works AND it’s not full of a bunch of chemicals.
