
About Blue Hen Falls – Cuyahoga Valley National Park
Blue Hen Falls is a beautiful 15-foot waterfall that cascades over a stone ledge and into a small pool located in Cuyahoga Valley National Park. The falls are accessed via a 3-mile roundtrip hike from the Boston Mill Visitor Center.
Blue Hen Falls is a great year-round destination within the park. Wildflowers and vivid greens are common sights in the spring while summer brings good weather, but more crowds. Fall surrounds Blue Hen Falls in brilliant autumn foliage making it a popular time to photograph the falls. Winter is the low season with snow and ice making for a challenging but rewarding hike.

Parking for Blue Hen Falls
Visitors can park at either the Boston Mill Visitor Center or the Boston Trailhead. The National Park Service cautions that parking tends to fill up quickly on weekends and throughout the summer so plan accordingly. If you want to give yourself the best chance at a parking space plan to arrive early or late in the day.
The Boston Mill Visitor Center has maps and information about the park and it’s trails so if you there during business hours be sure to stop in. Public restrooms are available adjacent to the visitor center.
Hiking to Blue Hen Falls

Finding the trail: From the main park sign outside the visitor center you’ll follow a curved path to the intersection of Boston Mill and Riverview roads. Here you’ll cross Riverview Road and locate the stone staircase marking the entrance to the Buckeye Trail.
Hiking the trail: The Buckeye Trail is marked by blue blazes painted on trees and wooden posts, make sure to follow these blazes to remain on the trail.
The hike to Blue Hen Falls is considered a moderate hike as it involves 580 feet of elevation gain. The National Park Service tells visitors to allow 1-2 hours to complete the hike.
